2 day Memoir Writing Workshop to explore and discover personal memoir writing using right-brain/left- brain learning techniques that help tap into creativity and draw upon your well of life experience. This workshop also provides writers interested in writing fiction with a bedrock of life experiences that can be used as base material in fiction writing.

It will be a time to discover and enhance your unique writing voice as you define your experiences and learn how to write from the heart of personal understanding. You will discover how to think like a writer and draw upon the myriad of incidents that make up your life story and path.

You will explore theme and its associated meaning as you learn how to translate your personal story into creatively writing and structuring your memoir. By using various creative writing techniques you will be encouraged to capture significant life events as you learn how to focus your memoir, include your retrospective voice and how to engage with truth in the writing of creative non-fiction.

This workshop will help you unblock creativity and evoke your imagination as you develop and write your memoir. The Memoir Writing Workbook will be used throughout the workshop, and is included in the workshop fee. Workbooks will be distributed at the start of the workshop. Open to new and established writers.

Memoir Writing Retreat – 4 Day

Markree Castle, Collooney, Co. Sligo, Ireland

Memories into Memoir Workshop with Author Irene Graham - based upon The Memoir Writing Workbook

4 day Memories into Memoir Writing Retreat in a 14th Century Castle set in the heart of W.B. Yeats countryside amidst 500 acres of secluded woodlands and gardens. Lovingly restored by its owners Markree Castle is the perfect writer’s haven offering peace, relaxation and good food.

This four day writing retreat is for writers that want to tap into life experiences and write memoir, or to use those experiences to translate into fiction. The workshop is based on Irene’s workbook – The Memoir Writing Workbook which will be used as support material throughout the workshop. This is an exclusive residential Writer’s Retreat for ten writers. The workshop is open to new and established writers.

Using right-brain/left-brain exercises you will develop and integrate significant life memories with narrative as you weave the elements of memoir writing within a creative structure.

It will be a time to discover and enhance your unique writing voice as you define your experiences and learn how to write from the heart of personal understanding. You will explore theme and subject and its associated meaning as you learn how to focus your memoir. You will discover how to use and incorporate your retrospective voice into your writing and how to engage with truth in the writing of creative non-fiction.

You will be invigorated as you relax, walk and write in this haven of old world charm…and good company.

Markree Castle is easily accessible by road and airport from Dublin, Galway and Shannon.

Workshop Opportunity!

As part of the western launch celebration of The Memoir Writing Club, from 2 to 5:30pm in Galway City Library on 30 September 2009, 12 people will be invited to a Memories into Memoir workshop with Irene.

This workshop is specifically for participants interested in forming a Memoir Writing Club in their local area. The workshop will guide you through the significant elements of memoir writing and get you started on your personal memoir journey.

How to apply for a Workshop space:

A workshop fee is not applicable. Each participant requires a copy of The Memoir Writing Workbook – which will be used throughout the workshop.
